Zelda Ocarina of Time Remake Walkthrough – Chapter 3: Market & Hyrule Castle

Chapter 3 · Child Link

Chapter 3 follows Link out of Kokiri Forest for the first time. You'll receive the Fairy Ocarina from Saria, cross Hyrule Field, visit the Market, and sneak into Hyrule Castle to meet Princess Zelda, who gives you Zelda's Letter. Before you leave the castle, her attendant Impa teaches you Zelda's Lullaby.

This chapter also covers the early Heart Piece sold in a Hyrule Field grotto, the Market Gold Skulltula and the Hyrule Castle tree Gold Skulltula.

Saria's Gift, the Fairy Ocarina

After the Great Deku Tree's death, Mido and Saria come to see what happened, and Saria tells you that you have to leave the forest. Before you go, it's worth a trip back to the Kokiri Shop, which is now fully stocked and sells Deku Seeds, Deku Nuts, Deku Sticks and Recovery Hearts as well as the Shield.

Head for the exit at the east edge of Kokiri Forest. Mido is waiting in the tunnel this time and grudgingly lets you through. On the wooden bridge beyond, Saria says goodbye and gives you the Fairy Ocarina. A short tutorial follows on how to play the Ocarina.

Cross the bridge into Hyrule Field. The owl Kaepora Gaebora lands nearby, points you toward Hyrule Castle to the north, and introduces the Threads of Time, a new quest log in the pause menu that lists your current goals. Your first one is Princess of Hyrule Castle.

The Market

Go straight across Hyrule Fields to reach Hyrule Town/ Hyrule Castle, cross the drawbridge into Hyrule Castle Town Market.

Guard House Gold Skulltula

As soon as you enter the town, go into the first building on your right, the one full of vases, roll into the boxes at the far end of this room to break them revealing a Gold Skulltula inside.

There is also a new Empty Bottle you can get here in town that did not exist in the original version of the game, to get it simply go inside the Potions Shop and help the shopkeeper catch the bug inside.

For now exit the building and head through the market and take the path ahead toward Hyrule Castle. The owl is waiting again on the castle road and tells you the princess is in the castle just ahead.

Malon and the Weird Egg

On the road up to the castle you'll find Malon from Lon Lon Ranch sitting by her father's milk cart. Her father, Talon, went into the castle to deliver milk and hasn't come back. She gives you the Weird Egg.

You don't need to wait for dawn. The egg hatches into a Cucco on its own after a short while, as you make your way into the castle grounds.

Sneaking Into Hyrule Castle

The guard at the castle gate won't let you in. Next to Malon, climb the vines up the wall instead. At the top climb the next stretch of vines, then go down the ladder on the far side into the castle garden.

Follow the path through the hedges on the left without being seen by the guards.

Hyrule Castle Gold Skulltula

In the castle grounds, just after the 1st stealth section, before climbing up the vines there's a lone tree on the right. Roll into the tree to knock down a Gold Skulltula. Defeat it and grab the token.

Now climb up the nearby vines towards the castle moat, around here the Weird Egg hatches into a Coco. At the top of the vines swim along the moat channel and climb out on the far bank to avoid the guards.

Talon is asleep beside a stack of crates near the castle wall. Use the Cucco to wake him up and he runs off home to Lon Lon Ranch, which you'll visit in Chapter 4.

With Talon gone, push and pull the big crates over to be able to jump the gap across the water and then crawl through the small hole in the wall. You drop into the water on the other side. Climb the ladder out and you're inside the castle walls.

The Castle Courtyard

The castle courtyard is patrolled by guards. If one of them spots you, you're thrown back out and have to try again.

Head up the stone stairs and through the flower gardens, climb on the boxes to go over the top of where the guard is standing to not get seen. The path leads indoors into a storeroom where more guards are on watch. Wait for the guards to look away and take the path on the right hand side as soon as you get the chance to reach the long corridor at the end that leads out into Zelda's garden.

At the end of the garden, Princess Zelda is standing at a window, watching someone inside the castle.

Zelda's Letter and Zelda's Lullaby

Talk to Zelda and tell her your name. She tells you about her dream of dark clouds over Hyrule and a light from the forest, recognises the Kokiri Emerald, and shares the legend of the Triforce and the Ocarina of Time. She shows you Ganondorf through the window and asks you to find the other two Spiritual Stones before he can reach the Triforce. She gives you Zelda's Letter, which tells the guards to let you through.

Zelda then calls over her attendant, Impa. This adds a new Threads of Time goal, Three Spiritual Stones. Impa teaches you Zelda's Lullaby right there in the garden. Play it back as Y, X, A, Y, X, A. You'll use it to open doors marked with the Triforce symbol and to prove you're from the Royal Family.

Impa then escorts you out of the castle and into Hyrule Field. She points out Death Mountain, home of the Gorons, who guard the Spiritual Stone of Fire, and tells you that her homeland, Kakariko Village, is at its foot. She suggests talking to the villagers before you head up the mountain. Once she leaves, Spiritual Stone of Fire is added to the Threads of Time.

Before heading for Kakariko our next objective is to visit Lon Lon Ranch (Chapter 4) while you're close.

The Great Fairy Near the Castle

At the end of the path left of the castle gate there's a boulder that hides a Great Fairy Fountain. You need Bombs to open it, so come back in Chapter 11 for Din's Fire.
