Zelda Ocarina of Time Remake Walkthrough – Chapter 6: Goron City & Lost Woods

Chapter 6 · Child Link

Chapter 6 covers the path through Death Mountain Trail to reach Goron City, the Lost Woods and the Sacred Grove where Saria teaches you Saria's Song. You need the song to get the Goron's Bracelet from Darunia in Goron City.

Along the way you'll pick up the bigger Deku Seed Bag, and you can also collect 3 Heart Pieces and 5 Gold Skulltula.

Reaching Goron City

Continue up the main path on the Death Mountain Trail, when you reach the first sharp turn you will see a big boulder on the corner that you need to explode a bit later, this is going to be the entrance to Dodongo Cavern. Ignore it for now and keep walking up the hill, shortly after you will see an entrance on your left to Goron City.

Meet Darunia

Go all the way to the bottom floor of Goron City where you will see a locked door with a Triforce symbol in front of it. Stand on the Triforce and play Zelda's Lullaby to open the door.

Go inside to get a cutscene where you meet Darunia. After the cutscene our next main objective is to learn Saria's Song to cheer up Darunia, this can be done in the Lost Woods.

The Lost Woods

There is a shortcut back to the Lost Woods from Goron City, to find it, light up a Deku Stick using the torch in Darunia's room, and run up the stairs to the 2nd floor to light the bomb flowers on the wall, exploding these will destroy the nearby breakable rocks blocking the entrance.

The Lost Woods is a maze of clearings linked by hollow-log tunnels. Taking a wrong exit sends you back to Kokiri Forest. To find the way, listen for Saria's music. It gets louder as you head in the right direction and quieter when you're going the wrong way. You'll also see glowing green music notes floating in the tunnels.

Return To Kokiri Forest

The best thing to do as soon as you enter the Lost Woods is go through a wrong door to get reset back to the Kokiri Forest as there are 2 Gold Skulltulas there we can now get.

Gold Skulltula #14

In Kokiri Forest, during the NIGHT (if it isn't nighttime just play the Sun's Song to change it), look behind the building to the south of the exit towards Hyrule Fields to find a Gold Skulltula, defeat it and pick up the Token.

Gold Skulltula #15

Also in Kokiri Forest, use a Bug in a Bottle near the Soft Soil Spot behind the building that is slightly north of the exit towards the Great Deku Tree, this will make a Gold Skulltula appear from the soil.

Bullet Bag Upgrade, the Deku Scrub's Target

Return to The Lost Woods and in the first room take the right door from the entrance, here you will see a target that hangs from a tree branch, and a Deku Scrub nearby is watching. Equip the Fairy Slingshot and shoot the target.

Hit the center three times without missing and the scrub comes out to congratulate you on your 100 percent accuracy. He gives you a bigger Deku Seed Bag, so you can now carry up to 40 Deku Seeds.

Heart Piece, the Ocarina Memory Game

In the same room as the target, drop down to the area below and you will see two Skull Kids standing on tree stumps playing flutes. Stand on the stump marked for you and pull out your Ocarina. They play a short tune, you repeat it, and each round adds a note. Complete all the rounds (3x3) to win a Piece of Heart.

Reaching The Sacred Grove

Our next objective is going to be to reach the Sacred Grove where we will learn Saria's Song.

To get there starting back at the entrance of the Lost Woods take the following path: right, left, right, left, straight, left, right

Sacred Grove

The Sacred Grove Maze

The gate at the entrance to the Sacred Grove is sealed by a purple barrier, and a Wolfos jumps out to attack. Raise your shield when it lunges, then strike back. Its back is its weak spot. Once it's defeated, the barrier on the gate disappears.

Past the gate is a maze of overgrown stone corridors. Red flower monsters burst out of the ground and charge toward you. Stun them with a Deku Nut or sidestep them, then finish them with the sword. Plants in the maze grow fresh Deku Nuts that you can pick up, and the bushes hide Recovery Hearts.

Further in, drop down the hole in the ground next to the ladder. At the bottom you land in a small stone room filled with Fairies, these recover all of your hearts, you can also catch them if you have any Empty Bottles to take them with you. Exit back up to the surface. Then directly in front of the ladder you will see some stairs, go up these stairs. There are more flower monsters in the last corridor, then a long staircase leads up to the top of the grove.

Saria's Song

At the top of the stairs, past a stone platform, Saria is sitting on a tree stump. Talk to her. She asks whether you can come home now, and when you tell her what happened at Hyrule Castle, she says she'll wait for you in Kokiri Forest. She tells you the Sacred Grove is her favorite place, and that it's going to be really important to both of you someday.

She then teaches you Saria's Song. Play it back as R, A, Y, R, A, Y. Playing Saria's Song lets you talk to Saria from anywhere, and she gives hints about where to go next.

On your way back through the Lost Woods, Kaepora Gaebora appears again. He explains that songs hold mysterious powers, and that if you find anything suspicious on your travels, you should try playing one of your songs there.

Heart Piece, the Skull Kid

Head back to the Lost Woods entrance. In the first room this time take the left door, here a Skull Kid is sitting on a tree stump. Stand on the stump marked for you and play Saria's Song. He dances along and gives you a Piece of Heart.

Remember this Skull Kid, he's also the buyer for the Skull Mask later on for the Mask Side Quest.

Gold Skulltula #16

From the previous Piece of Heart Collectible, take the next door to the left again to find a room with a Soft Soil Spot on the ground, here use a Bug in a Bottle to make a Gold Skulltula appear, defeat it and grab the Token (if you don't have any bugs left try cutting down the grass in this same room, sometimes bugs can appear here).

Gold Skulltula #17

Return to the Lost Woods entrance one last time, this time take the following path: right, left, right, left, left. Here you should be in a room with 2 flower enemies shooting at you, at the back of this room there is another Soft Soil Spot where you can use a Bottled Bug to make a Gold Skulltula appear, defeat it and grab the Token.

Get The Goron Bracelet

Return back to Goron City (if you can't remember the path, from the Lost Woods entrance it is: right, left, straight).

In Goron City go back to Darunia's room on the bottom floor and play Saria's Song in front of him, this will start a cutscene of him dancing.

After the cutscene he will give you the Goron Bracelet, this will allow you to pick up blomb flower and carry them for a short time until they explode.

Goron City Heart Piece

Now that you have the Goron Bracelet, equip a Deku Stick, set it on fire using the torch in Darunia's room and then light all of the torches in the previous room (the one with the giant pot in the middle).

After lighting all the torches the pot will start spinning, walk up the stairs to the 2nd floor, here you will find a bomb flower on your left, pick it up and throw it into the pot so it explodes inside, this make take you a few tries to get the timing right.

When done correctly it will release a Piece of Heart.

Throw a Bomb into the spinning pot

Open Dodongo Cavern

Now exit back out of Goron City and you will see a Bomb Flower on your right near a fence, pick this up and throw it over the fence to destroy the rock below that is blocking the entrance to Dodongo Cavern.

Gold Skulltula #18

Just behind the rock you destroyed with the bomb flower is another Soft Soil Spot where you can use a Bottled Bug to reveal another Gold Skulltula, defeat it and pick up the Token.
