Zelda Ocarina of Time Remake Walkthrough – Chapter 10: Inside Lord Jabu Jabu’s Belly

Chapter 10 · Child Link

Chapter 10 covers Inside Jabu-Jabu's Belly, the third dungeon. You'll find Princess Ruto, get the Boomerang, and fight Barinade for the Zora Sapphire, the last of the three Spiritual Stones.

The dungeon has 4 Gold Skulltulas, and you can collect all of them on this visit once you have the Boomerang.

Finding Ruto

In the first room, there will be a locked door just past the 2 enemies that shoot at you. Defeat the enemies by using your shield to bounce their shots back at them. Then shoot the dangling switch above with the Slingshot to open the door.

In most of the Jabu-Jabu dungeon you will encounter Biris (electric jellyfish). Don't hit Biris with your sword while they're glowing, you'll get a shock. Use Deku Nuts to stun them first so that you can attack them safely.

In the next large room you'll find Princess Ruto. She's not pleased to see you. Her father only knew where she was because you showed him the letter she wanted kept secret, and you're not even a Zora. She tells you to leave, then drops through a hole in the floor. Follow her down.

On the lower level, Ruto admits she's been coming to play inside Jabu-Jabu in secret since she was young, and that she dropped her precious stone in here. She won't go home until it's found, so she agrees to let you come along, then tells you to carry her. Pick her up. You'll be carrying her for most of the dungeon.

The Dungeon Map and the Boomerang

Carry Ruto into the room directly beside where you first pick her up, this room has 2 switches, one to raise the water and one to lower it. First go down into the empty pool and throw Ruto up to the other side of the gap by standing on any of the small purple mounds, then stand on the lower switch to raise the water so you can swim across to the chest on the left for the Dungeon Map.

In the next room with water, there will be another enemy that you need to use the shield to bounce back its shots, then you can shoot the dangling switch above to call the elevator.

But before going up the lift, swim through an underwater passage behind it to find a Business Scrub. When it shoots at you just use the shield to bounce his attacks back as usual. Once he's beaten he sells 10 Deku Seeds, 5 Deku Nuts and a Business Scrub Seed for 30 Rupees.

In the next room, first stand on the switch on the left side hallway to open the door ahead.

Inside is a misty room with Stingers (flying rays). Shoot them with the Slingshot. When they're all defeated, a chest appears with the Boomerang.

The Boomerang stuns most enemies, grabs items from a distance, and cuts the tentacles in this dungeon. Hold the button to aim, then release to throw.

The Tentacles and the Compass

Jabu-Jabu's passages are blocked by glowing Parasitic Tentacles that hang from the ceiling. There are three, pink, blue and green. So our next objective is to destroy all 3 of these tentacles, there is one in each of the upcoming small side rooms.

Once we have exited the Boomerang room and are back in the center hallway you will see another switch on the ground on the right hand side. This time you will need to leave Ruto placed on the switch to keep the door open while you go inside.

Here you will need to throw the Boomerang at the pink tentacle's weak spot near its middle a few times to destroy it.

Exit out of this room, then head down the left hallway to find the room with the Blue tentacle, it moves a bit differently but this one is also defeated in a very similar way by using the Boomerang.

By destroying this blue tentacle you will open up the path forward towards the final 2 small rooms in this area.

Exit out of the blue tentacle room and continue down the main path, at the next split in the road, first go into the room on the right, destroy all of the bubbles using the Boomerang and a chest will appear in the middle of the room that contains the Compass for this dungeon.

Now that you have the Compass, exit out of this room and head into the final room at the end of the area to face the Green tentacle.

The Green Tentacle is a little bit more difficult as it combines the moves of both the previous tentacles and there are a few flying enemies in the room with you, but still very similar to the previous 2.

If you want to you can drop down from this elevated platform and go through the doorway below to reach a room with 2 squid enemies shooting at you and a "flan" looking enemy that you can stun by using the Boomerang to cross to the other side of the water, here you will find a chest that contains a Red Rupee. You will then need to climb back up the vines and drop down the same hole again to continue the story path.

Continuing on from the elevated platform just after dropping down through the hole, carry Ruto into the next room with the raised purple ring in the middle. Throw her up onto the ring. She finds her stone at last. It's the Zora Sapphire, her dearest possession and a gift from her mother. She dropped it when Jabu-Jabu swallowed her while she was feeding him.

She tells you to take her home, but the ring closes around her and she's carried away.

Watch out for the Shabom bubbles drifting around. Repeat until it's defeated.

  • First, throw the Boomerang at the tentacles connecting Barinade to the ceiling. Cut all of them.
  • Barinade then spins with a ring of Biri jellyfish around it. When they stop spinning throw the Boomerang to stun the jellyfish to be able to attack them with your sword while their stunned.
  • Once the jellyfish are gone, Barinade chases you and fires electric beams. Stun it with the Boomerang, by attacking the exposed orange weak point then run in and slash it.
